49ers won't play international game during 2024 NFL season
Robert Kupbens-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers escaped having to play an international game for another season. The Bay Area team won't be required to travel overseas or compete in Mexico during the 2024 season. The NFL has released its lineup of international games, and the 49ers aren't among the teams scheduled for long-distance journeys.

San Francisco's last international game was in 2022, where they triumphed over the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico. Their prior overseas venture was to London in 2013, when they clinched a victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.

There was a chance that the 49ers might return to the United Kingdom for the 2024 NFL season. The Minnesota Vikings will host a team at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2024, and the 49ers are on their home schedule. However, the Vikings will instead host the New York Jets during Week 5 on October 6.

Additionally, two other teams are scheduled to host games in London. The Chicago Bears will host the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Week 6 on October 13, while the Jaguars will remain in London to host the New England Patriots in Week 7 on October 20 at Wembley Stadium.

Other international games include the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Green Bay Packers at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil, in Week 1 on September 6, and the Carolina Panthers hosting the New York Giants at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, in Week 10 on November 10.
